Tomatoes are a key ingredient, with garlic, onions, courgette (zucchini), aubergine, bell peppers, marjoram and basil, or bay leaf and thyme, or a mix of green herbs like herbes de Provence..

American chef Thomas Keller popularized a contemporary variation of X, confit byaldi, for the 2007 animated film by the same name.
